Author Guidelines
Authors are required to observe the following guidelines:
General Guidelines:
- Submitted Manuscripts must be original.
- Manuscripts must not have been published elsewhere. After first publication in Trade, Law and Development, permission for reproduction may be obtained from the Editors.
- Contributions must be made by individuals, not firms or organizations. Authors from all spheres are otherwise welcome.
- Submission of a manuscript to the Editors does not secure publication in Trade, Law and Development. Authors will receive a notification of acceptance or rejection from the Editors.
- The Editors reserve the right to send the works to referees for evaluation of content and quality, in which case the identities of both, the Author and Referee, shall remain confidential.
- The Editors reserve the right to request for copies of any resources or authorities cited in the submitted manuscript. The publication of the manuscript remains subject to the Authors providing such copies.
- All correspondence must be done via e-mail and should be addressed to:
The Submissions Editor,
Trade, Law and Development
Email: editors[at]tradelawdevelopment.com
Cc. to: submissions[at]tradelawdevelopment.com
Specific Guidelines:
- Articles must deal with issues of interest and relevance and must demonstrate a high-level of analysis. Articles of a purely descriptive nature, unless about a development in a country or a region which may necessarily be of a descriptive nature, are not preferred.
- Apart from Articles, we seek shorter Notes which cover a recent development or are issue specific; Comments, which are essentially a critical analysis of an issue of relevance, including case laws and poicy developments; and Book Reviews which are solicited by the Editors. Suggestions for Book Reviews may be sent to the editors.
- As a guide, Articles should be between 10,000-20,000 words; however, any departures from this limit will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Editors. Notes and Comments may be shorter, with a maximum prescribed limit of 10,000 words.
- The Journal, true to its interdisciplinary approach, does not prescribe a specific citation style. Any established convention may be used. However, uniformity must be maintained at all times within a single work. The Editors may suggest possible citation styles from time to time. For works predominantly legal in nature we suggest the use of the system prescribed in The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (18th ed.)
- Contributions around the theme of development are encouraged.
- As a convention, British English shall be followed.
- An “Abstract” of no more than 300 words must precede body of work (except Recent Developments and Book Reviews.)
Process of Submission:
- Authors may submit manuscripts in accordance with the above laid down guidelines either online or by way of e-mail.
- Online submissions may be made through: (1) Our own TLD-OJ System; (2) LexOpus Submission Service; or (3) BEPress ExpressO Submission Service.
- We accept submissions on a rolling basis. Nonetheless, to be considered for the Fall Issue, manuscripts should be submitted by the end of November; to be considered for the Spring Issue, manuscripts should be submitted by the end of May.
